   God, today just feels sad, and I don't need a reason. I'm not asking you to fix my mood right now. Just sit with me in it for a while. I trust the morning will feel different. Amen.

2. “Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.”

   Matthew 5:4 · KJV

   God, I don't feel blessed today, just sad. Thank you for saying mourning isn't a dead end, it's a place you show up. I don't need to snap out of this by tonight. Just be with me in it. Amen.

3. “And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.”

   John 16:22 · KJV

   God, this sorrow feels like it's going to last. Thank you for the promise that it's not permanent, even when it feels that way. I'm holding onto joy I can't feel yet. Bring it eventually. Amen.

   God, I keep asking myself why I feel this low. Help me put my hope in you instead of in feeling better right away. I don't have to have this figured out tonight. Just help me hope anyway. Amen.

5. “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”

   Revelation 21:4 · KJV

   God, this future feels far away right now, but I need it to be true. A day with no more tears is hard to imagine from here. Hold that promise for me until I can hold it myself. Thank you for not leaving sorrow as the last word. Amen.

   God, today feels more like ashes than anything. Thank you for promising to trade that, not just tolerate it. I don't need the trade to happen tonight. Just remind me it's coming. Amen.

   God, some part of me feels bruised today. Thank you for being described as someone who heals, not someone who just observes. I don't need this fixed by morning. Just don't let it get worse. Amen.

   God, I feel like this sadness could swallow me some days. Thank you for the promise that your compassion doesn't run out, even when mine does. I'm still here, which means it hasn't consumed me yet. Keep it that way tonight. Amen.

   God, I keep going back over what hurt, even when I don't mean to. I'm not trying to wallow, I just can't seem to put it down yet. Meet me in the remembering, not just after I've moved past it. Stay close while it still stings. Amen.

    God, I wish I could just find you clearly right now, the way Job wanted to. This sadness makes you feel farther away than usual. I'm still looking, even though I can't see you right now. Don't let the distance be the last word tonight. Amen.
