Bible verses for when you feel guilty
Guilt that keeps circling back is worth taking seriously and worth putting down. These verses are about forgiveness that is complete — sins removed as far as east is from west, remembered no more. All ten prayers here name Christ, because that is what the verses themselves are about.
“As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.”Psalms 103:12 · KJV
A prayer
God, I want this guilt to actually leave, not just quiet down for a while. Thank you for the picture of it being removed completely, as far as Christ has carried it. Help me actually believe it's gone, not just forgiven on paper. Let me walk away from it tonight. Amen.

-
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
1 John 1:9 · KJVGod, I keep replaying what I did wrong. I'm not asking you to excuse it. I'm asking you to forgive it, because of Jesus, and help me do better. Thank you for not holding it over me. Amen.

“As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.”
Psalms 103:12 · KJVGod, I want this guilt to actually leave, not just quiet down for a while. Thank you for the picture of it being removed completely, as far as Christ has carried it. Help me actually believe it's gone, not just forgiven on paper. Let me walk away from it tonight. Amen.

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”
Romans 8:1 · KJVGod, I've been condemning myself more than you are, I think. Help me actually receive no condemnation, because I'm in Christ, instead of manufacturing my own. I don't want to carry a sentence Jesus already paid. Let me put it down. Amen.
-
“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”
Isaiah 1:18 · KJVGod, this feels like more than a small mistake to me right now. Thank you for saying even scarlet can become white, the way Jesus' blood makes it so. I don't need to minimize what I did to be forgiven for it. Just do what you said you'd do with it. Amen.
-
“He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.”
Micah 7:19 · KJVGod, I want this actually gone, not just filed away somewhere I can find it again. Thank you for the picture of it being thrown into the deep, because of what Christ already did with it. Help me stop fishing it back out. Leave it where you put it. Amen.
-
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
Psalms 51:10 · KJVGod, I don't just want the guilt gone, I want to actually be different. Create something clean in me, the way only Jesus can. Renew whatever got worn down by this. Start that tonight. Amen.
-
“Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:”
Romans 3:24 · KJVGod, I know I can't earn my way out of how I feel right now. Thank you for making this free through the redemption that's in Christ Jesus, instead of something I have to work off. Help me stop trying to pay a debt he already covered. Let grace actually be enough. Amen.
-
“For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.”
Hebrews 8:12 · KJVGod, I keep remembering this even when I don't want to. Thank you for saying you won't remember it against me, because of Jesus. Help my memory catch up to your mercy. Let this stop replaying. Amen.
-
“I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.”
Psalms 32:5 · KJVGod, I'm done hiding this one. I'm just saying it plainly. Thank you for meeting honesty with forgiveness through Christ, instead of more shame. I feel lighter just admitting it to you. Thank you for taking it from here. Amen.
-
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
2 Corinthians 5:17 · KJVGod, I don't want to define myself by this mistake. Thank you for offering something new in Christ, instead of just a clean slate on the old thing. Help me actually live like the old version of this is behind me. Make this new, not just forgiven. Amen.
