Bible verses for when you feel indifferent
Feeling nothing is harder to talk about than feeling bad. These verses are for the flat stretches — a thirst you cannot quite locate, belief that arrives with a caveat, seeking that starts before the wanting does. The prayers are honest about the gap.
“But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.”Deuteronomy 4:29 · KJV
A prayer
God, my whole heart isn't in this tonight, if I'm honest. Help me bring what I have instead of waiting until I feel more. Maybe seeking with a half heart is still seeking. Meet me partway. Amen.
All 10 verses for when you feel indifferent
The verse above rotates daily. Here is the whole set, each with its prayer.
-
“As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.”
Psalms 42:1 · KJVGod, I feel a little numb to everything tonight, even this. I don't have big feelings about anything right now. Meet me here anyway, in the flat parts. I still want to care, even when I don't feel it. Amen.
-
“O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;”
Psalms 63:1 · KJVGod, I don't feel like seeking you tonight, but I'm doing it anyway. Maybe the longing will catch up to the choice. I don't need to feel thirsty to still show up. Meet the part of me that's just going through the motions. Amen.
-
“When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.”
Psalms 27:8 · KJVGod, I heard something in me say seek him, even quietly. I'm choosing to listen to that instead of the numbness. Help the seeking matter even without the feeling behind it yet. I'm looking for you, even half-heartedly. Amen.
-
“And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.”
Mark 9:24 · KJVGod, I believe, mostly, but there's a flat part of me that doesn't feel much right now. I'm not going to pretend that part isn't there. Help the weak, quiet part of my faith the way you helped that father's. Meet me exactly this honest. Amen.
-
“But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.”
Deuteronomy 4:29 · KJVGod, my whole heart isn't in this tonight, if I'm honest. Help me bring what I have instead of waiting until I feel more. Maybe seeking with a half heart is still seeking. Meet me partway. Amen.
-
“Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.”
Hosea 6:3 · KJVGod, I don't feel much right now, but I want to keep following anyway. Let knowing you be something I build even on the flat days. This doesn't have to feel dramatic to be real. Keep me following, even slowly. Amen.
-
“Seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his face evermore.”
Psalms 105:4 · KJVGod, continually feels like a lot to ask on a day like today. But I'm here again, even without much behind it. Let showing up count for something. Keep drawing me back, even when I drift. Amen.
-
“The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.”
Lamentations 3:25 · KJVGod, I'm not waiting well right now, honestly. I'm more indifferent than expectant. Be good to me anyway, the way you promised to the ones who seek you. Meet the waiting I'm barely doing. Amen.
-
“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.”
James 4:8 · KJVGod, I haven't drawn very close lately, and I can feel the distance. I'm taking one small step back toward you tonight. Thank you for meeting people halfway, even after a while away. Close the gap I've let grow. Amen.
-
“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”
Jeremiah 29:13 · KJVGod, I don't have all my heart in this tonight, but I have some of it. Help the seeking be real even when it's small. I trust you're findable even by someone this half-present. Meet me where I actually am. Amen.
